Domestic Violence in the NFL

The NFL has had a fair share of players and coaches who have had run-ins with the law. Every year, the media covers stories about players who have failed drug tests or been arrested under the influence. Another incredibly prominent issue that the NFL has been faced with is issues of domestic violence. And with the numerous domestic violence cases that have come about over the past two decades, the NFL has been on the hot seat for how they have handled the situation.

  • On a typical day, there are more than 20,000 phone calls placed to domestic violence hotlines nationwide

  • Women between the ages of 18-24 are most commonly abused by an intimate partner​​​​​​

The Ray Rice Case
​

In the winter of 2014, Ray Rice and his then fiancé Janay Palmer were arrested in an Atlantic City casino. Less than a week later, a tabloid called TMZ released video footage of Rice dragging Palmer from the casino elevator. Rice was indicted by a grand jury in March for third-degree aggravated assault.
